Reading 1- Mariah McCauslin

The first few chapters seemed to discuss the challenges and obstacles faced by both Microsoft and Apple. I enjoyed reading this new information because much of the debate is centered on the pros. It was interesting to read about the struggles of each company. However, chapter five caught my attention more than anything else. From what I understood, Microsoft purposely does not perfect their goods before releasing them. At first I found this to be absurd. Then Stephenson goes on to say, "It is because Microsoft's excellent management has figured out that they can make more money for their stockholders by releasing stuff with obvious, known imperfections than they can by making it beautiful or bug-free." I suppose this is a clever way to make more money, but I also find it somewhat a scam.
My bias toward Windows PC is caused by my upbringing. I was raised using a Windows PC and Microsoft. I've grown comfortable with the way they operate and how to navigate them. To this day, I am still uncomfortable trying to work a Mac. I believe that Mac hardware is insanely overpriced. I have considered trying out Mac, but later changed my mind due to the cost. Windows has much more software available compared to Mac as well. Although, I do see many of the advantages that come with owning a Mac. Macs have fewer viruses and security issues, which is a huge advantage in my mind.

I felt that much of this reading was over my head. The terminology was nothing that I am familiar with. There are many parts of the reading that I still do not fully understand. Many people commented on the technosphere. That is one of the terms that I cannot seem to grip. UNIX is another term in the reading that I struggled with.
Overall, I do not believe that there is a better choice. I believe that Mac vs. Windows is strictly based on your opinion and preference. Each system works better for specific needs. Operating systems should be chosen based on those needs. It is also important to keep in mind that Microsoft and Apple are constantly working to improve their companies and products. You may end up changing your side.
